Move More Or Eat Less to Lose Weight Permanently?

Do you prefer to move more and don’t observe what you are eating? Or would you rather limit your eating in order to not break a sweat?

It depends on your goals…

If you’d like to improve your health and lower your risk getting ill, exercise will help you. If you increase exercise without eating less calories, you’ll increase your fitness- but don’t expect to lose a lot of weight.

In fact, there is a danger in doing that: Many people increase not only their exercise. They increase their calorie intake as well. The typical thinking is “as long as I am burning it off, I can eat as much as I’d like to”. This does not work for permanent weight loss.

The amount of calories burnt during exercise is usually overestimated, and the amount of calories in food is underestimated.

You’d probably do better if you see your exercise as a contribution to a healthy lifestyle, and not so much as a contribution to permanent weight loss.

If you eat less but don’t exercise you will lose weight. But: Part of the weight loss will come from losing muscle mass and not from losing fat. You need an exercise program including all muscle groups of your body. Swimming is good. Or Yoga.  Another disadvantage of “eat less, no exercise” is you are likely to regain whatever you’ve lost because your metabolism slows down. So, “eat less, but no exercise” does not help to lose weight permanently.

To lose weight permanently you need to combine eating less calories and exercising more. This will lead automatically to losing weight and a healthy lifestyle.

Talk Yourself Into Healthy Weight Loss – Instead Of Talking Yourself Out Of It

“Today I do not have time to exercise”. “This food is so delicious I need a third helping”. “I’ve been exercising today so I can have more food”.

There are many excuses we come up with to avoid exercising and to eat more. But- talking yourself out of a healthy lifestyle will not lead to permanent weight loss.  So, instead of talking yourself out, how about talking yourself in?

There are two major ways to do this. The first one is:

Give yourself reasons. Come up with reasons why you want to lose weight permanently. Come up with reasons why you want to lose weight in a healthy way. The best time of the day is in the morning, before getting up. Try to find your “Top 10 reasons to lose weight permanently” every day. If these change from day to day, even better. It gives your unconscious a little poke, a gentle push in the right direction.

The second way to “talk yourself in” is using affirmations. You probably know already how these work: State them in the positive, use present tense and target what you desire. Some examples are

  • “I am healthy, move my body regularly, and pay attention to my eating habits”
  • “I am active and monitor what I’m eating”
  • “Today I am happier, healthier and thinner”

You need to find your own words- don’t use affirmations of others. After all, you want to influence your mind, so you need to talk to it in your words not the words chosen by somebody else.

Some people say “affirmations don’t work for me”. Well, there is an important condition to make them work: You have to believe in them.

Stick with the same affirmation for at least 3 weeks, and repeat it at least 20 times daily. Try reading your affirmation out loud, give your voice a tone of credibility and conviction, and listen to what your are saying to yourself. I know people who write their affirmations on a sheet of paper and put them on their bathroom mirror. So they see them every morning and get a constant reminder of their affirmations to lose weight permanently.

Need A Fat-Burning Exercise Program?

You’ve probably heard this before: There is no permanent weight loss without moving your body on a regular basis. So:

Start an exercise routine. Begin lifting weights, it may be tough, but it will have its rewards! Achieving permanent weight loss is not easy, but it is worth it. Working out is a hard habit to develop, especially if you have spent years making up excuses to avoid working out.

There are things that can help make it easier, though. There are several options out there to choose from when it comes to your exercise routine. You must first decide if you want to work out in the gym, where being around other like-minded people will motivate you. Or, would you rather work out at home, where you can play your favourite work out music and work out to your own pace?

Which ever you decide, you will have to make the commitment to do it. You have made the decision to lose weight permanently, now all you have to do is stay focused and follow through.

Weight lifting causes you to build muscle, muscle in return burns calories. Therefore, the more muscle you have on your body, the more calories your body will burn. The reason for this is simple, muscles need energy, and they get this energy by burning calories to make this energy.

A body should have cardiovascular exercise as well in addition to a well-balanced weight lifting routine in order to reach it’s full potential. This means, you may want to jog in place for a bit, and then lift weights. For variety, you can dance one day and do leg weights. Then the next day try going on a long walk, then work on your arms and abdomens.

By switching your work out routine, you will be less likely to become bored with it, and you’ll be giving your body a full workout. Always stay focused on your goal of achieving a permanent weight loss and healthier lifestyle!

Who likes to exercise?

Who likes to exercise? If you are like me, and probably 99% of the people on the planet you are shaking your head vigorously and thinking sure, me exercise, forget it. Even though every single diet plan anywhere advocates exercise as an important part of permanent weight loss it is the one thing most dieters try hard to avoid.

As you lose weight you will probably find that outlook changing but until then there are many things you can do to get more exercise without ‘exercising.’

Walk—it is the best form of exercise you can get. It is aerobic and strengthening and does wonders for your metabolism. Walk to work, or the bus. Walk to school, or walk your children to school. Park as far from the doors of the shopping center as you can and walk.

Better still, enjoy a nice brisk walk after dinner with the family, or on your own. You will soon find out it is an enjoyable way to unwind as well as giving your permanent weight loss program a real boost.

To find out more about how you can get great benefits from exercise that isn’t exercise and other tips and advice have a look at this page. You will learn so much more about how to get the most out of every moment.

Take a comfortable pair of shoes to the office and you can even use your lunch break as a workout session by taking a brisk walk—you might even start a trend and find the rest of the office joining your path to successful permanent weight loss.

Your Stairway To Heaven

If you have studied various methods of permanent weight loss you know they all say you need exercise. Daily exercise, but who has time for that? You do. Believe it or not there are many ways you can get your exercise and not even have to take time out of your busy schedule to do it.

Take the stairs. Everyone has heard that advice but now it is time to actually do it. Instead of using the elevator at work or your apartment, or the escalator at the mall, take the stairs. Using the stairs is a fantastic form of exercise. It is not only aerobic for your heart and helps your metabolism pump up, it is excellent strength training for your legs.

If you have back problems you will soon discover that nagging pain is becoming a thing of the past. If you get short of breath easily take it slow and do one floor of stairs then switch to the elevator. Add a floor every couple of days and soon you will find that not only the pounds are falling off, but your breathing is greatly improved.

For all sorts of information on how your method of permanent weight loss stacks up, or helpful advice click here and find out more about how to get to where you are going with your weight loss program.
