Crossing The Line To Permanent Weight Loss
“You are your own worst enemy.” Are you always aware of what is holding you back? And if you’ve started something, has it ever happened to you that you felt pulled back into your old habits? These are your internal enemies at work.
A friend of mine recently started a “healthy weight loss” program. He educated himself on what food to eat, and managed to have only healthy food for 3 weeks. Then the holidays came… and a lot of invitations to friends and family for dinner. Of course he had to try the food… and after he tried, he could not stop.
His enemy was “if I like food, I need to eat a lot of it”.
Would he have had better chances to fight that enemy and lose weight permanently if he knew about this mental mechanism before getting into situations full of unhealthy food? You bet it would.
So here is a little exercise to help you lose weight permanently by identifying internal enemies. It is developed by Psychologist Kenneth W. Christian, author of “Your Own Worst Enemy”.
Often it helps if we put our bodies in action, instead of just playing “mind games”. So do this:
Select a line on the floor; thresholds are great for that. This line divides space in two areas. The area on the other side of the line is your life when you’ve lost weight permanently and you’re in shape, slim and slender. The area on this side is where you are currently. Stand in front of the line in a comfortable distance to the line.
How far away are you from the line? Can you see yourself crossing the line? If you had to cross the line, is there something that might hold you back? If you find something: congratulations! You’ve just discovered an enemy. What do you need to do to deal with that enemy?
Do you need to do anything before crossing the line? Be prepared, and face the challenge before- it will make crossing the line to permanent weight loss much easier.
Is there a reason to postpone crossing? If so, deal with the reasons before. And: Try to find a way to deal with them that will not postpone crossing the line to lose weight permanently.
