Women Over 40- How To Lose Weight Using Healthy Ways To Lose Weight

How to Lose Weight

How to lose weight? I get this question often- particularly from women who have been on a lot of diets already without getting a permanent result. When asking this question they sometimes try to find a shortcut, something they haven’t tried before and will give perfect results in a short time frame. Read this short article to discover how to lose weight.

Your Personal Goals – How to Lose Weight?

The first thing to do is to be clear about your goals. You need to know what your ideal weight is, the weight that would make you truly happy. This goal needs to be something very motivating- so make the number exciting. Then you should be clear on when you would like to have reached this goal- the exact date. You can calculate your personal ideal weight for women on this website here: Ideal Weight for Women.

How to Lose Weight- Plan

Next, you need to make a plan. Plan on what you eat, when you eat and how much. Buy only these foods- you reduce your chances of falling off the wagon greatly if there is no unhealthy food in your home. Additionally, you need to plan on when you will exercise, what kind of exercise you will do and for how long. Don’t skip this if you ask yourself how to lose weight.

How to Lose Weight – Making Gradual Changes

Most women want to know how to lose weight quickly. While it would be nice to drop 20 pounds in a month’s time, this just isn’t a realistic goal. In order to shed those excess pounds permanently, it is best to make gradual changes to your diet, adding in healthy, low-fat foods and removing those foods that are processed or high in saturated fats.

By making a gradual lifestyle change that includes a nutritious diet and plenty of physical activity, you can reach your goals in a steady, healthy way and enjoy a lifetime with a slim, healthy body. Most women find that making process in a gradual way is much easier to adhere to than making sudden or drastic changes in their diets. Also, taking away the “bad” and adding the “good” helps you feel less deprived; once you have completely eliminated the unhealthy foods that make you fat, you will find that you enjoy the healthy foods you are eating.

In Knowing How to Lose Weight, You Must Know What You are Eating

It is impossible to expect to reach your weight loss goals if you have no idea what you are eating. Knowing how many calories you are consuming and what types of calories they are is essential to your weight loss success. Are you consuming fat calories or protein calories? When you eat meals and have no idea how many calories you are consuming, you sabotage your odds of success from the beginning.

In understanding how to lose weight, you should know that it takes 3,500 additional calories to gain one pound; therefore, you have to consume or burn 3,500 calories less in order to lose one pound. This means that if your goal is to lose 3 pounds each week, you need to either eat 10,500 calories less or burn that many through exercise. For most women, a combination of both is the easiest and most effective way to accomplish this goal. In order to reach your perfect weight, it is important that you take a proactive approach and learn how many calories you are burning when you exercise, and how many you are eating. You may find keeping a journal is useful in helping you stay on track.

How to Lose Weight By Being Realistic

Most women know what they can do and what is not realistic. For example, you know that there is no possible way to lose 10 pounds in one week without resorting to starvation or other dangerous diets. For most women, setting a goal of 2 to 3 pounds a week is realistic, a goal you can achieve.

If you determine that how to lose weight for you means eating only 800 calories a day, you’re likely to be disappointed. It isn’t feasible for most people to consume that few calories, and it isn’t healthy. Not only that, you will find yourself starving at the end of the day, which will make you more likely to break down and eat snack foods that will ruin all of the effort you have put in to the day.

Most women try to adhere to between 1,200 and 1,600 calories per day to shed the extra pounds. By eating the right foods, you will find that you can consume enough food to satisfy your hunger and leave you feeling full without exceeding the calorie limit you set for yourself. Most fresh fruits and vegetables are low calorie (when they are not fried or contain no additional fats like butter or cheese), so you could potentially eat a ton of food without exceeding your daily calorie intake limit!

How to Lose Weight – The Mental Factors

While you may not realize it, your thoughts, mood and state of mind play an important role to your success. Many women consume “mindless” calories when feeling bored, depressed or even happy. It can also be a habit; eating unhealthy snacks in between meals or late in the evenings has become a routine that is hard to break.

In understanding how to lose weight, you must be mentally conscious of what you are doing. Are you depressed because a relationship seems to be failing? Maybe it is a weekend night and the kids are away at a sleepover. You’re bored, so you go in to the kitchen to “browse” for a snack. Many people do not realize that if you fail to act on your “snack attack” right away, it will gradually pass. Try to focus your attention in a direction away from food; call a friend, work a crossword puzzle, read a book or just go out for a walk.

If you find that despite your best efforts to redirect your thoughts you still have to have something to eat, grab a piece of fruit or a few healthy nuts. Don’t let your mind take over and convince you to eat something you know will sabotage your efforts!

How to Lose Weight- Track Progress

The last thing is to track progress if you need to know “how to lose weight”. For that, buy a nice journal and write down how your weight is diminishing. If it’s not going fast enough, you need to change your exercise routine and change the amount and type of food you are eating. Weight loss plateaus are common, especially for women over 40 who want to lose weight.

In this short article I gave you the basics on how to lose weight. Are you going to put these tips to work in your life and achieve that slim, sexy body you’ve been dreaming of, or will you keep doing the same old things you have been doing? Your success is completely up to you. I hope you will decide that a healthy lifestyle change is in order! Not only will you look better than ever before, your overall health will improve, and your complexion will even thank you with a luminescent glow.

I agree with the fact that in order to lose weight the first thing to do is to be clear with your goal i.e. how much extra weight you want to lose. after doing that you can then focus on other aspects of weight loss.

Nice one. It is very true that losing weight doesn’t have to be very complicated. Just set the goals, plan and track the progress. Many people who are trying to lose weight are so eager to spend their money on new products and programs. In my opinion, that’s like buying hope and not doing the basics to lose weight. When I set my goals, take action and track my progress every week, I realized that I lost lots of weight. The methods doesn’t have to be fancy and there’s no new technology involved. What I did was merely exercise and eat healthy diets.

Thanks for sharing :)

I think it is important for anyone who wants to lose weight to understand that in order for that weight loss to stick they must make a lifestyle change. Don’t just try to drop some pounds and go back to the way you ate and did or did not exercise before. You must change the way you think about food and exercise.

It is also helpful to have a picture of what you want to look like once you lose weight. Either a picture of yourself or someone else. Then refer to this. I did this and it helped me drop 50 pounds this past year.

I agree with your tips completely. It is sad how many people are uneducated about how to lose weight and they are always trying to find quick ways to lose weight. Losing weight takes motivation and determination and you have to change your lifestyle so that you can maintain your weight. Thanks for providing this information to help others lose weight.

I am a woman who often feel anxious when body weight increases. If my weight has gone up, I often feel stress. I do not know why? And I have problems in eating disorders. But with a lot of reading and find out, the more I understand to keep my weight stable.
Anyway, thank u for ur really nice info :)

Great info. I can relate to some of the women who commented and have been there and done that with weight loss. I saw some of the programs suggested but I highly recommend Mind Right, Body Tight which teaches you how to lose fat instead of weight. Before I didn’t care what I was losing as long as the number on the scale dropped but since reading MRBT I know how important preserving muscle mass is and how it helps burn fat. I used to struggle with emotional eating and would make a million excuses not to work out. Mind Right, Body Tight teaches you how to take emotions out of it and overcome “stinkin’ thinkin’ ” and then how to take positive action to lose fat fast. it wasn’t until I got my mind right that (finally!) my body is tight!! I lost 30 pounds in 3 months and kept it off. Would be worth a look and judge for yourself. Anyway thank you for the great tips – every lil bit helps :) -R

7 Katecotros - Diet myths { 07.19.11 at 12:06 pm }

Making a plan and sticking to it, is one of the most important aspects of weight loss. Many people have too vague goals or procrastinate too much. Another important step towards losing weight would be to keep a food journal. The majority of dieters underestimate how much they eat and then they wonder why they don’t lose weight!

Great info.
Everybody needs to avoid diet programs that offer “miracles” , like that you lose a lot of weight but without fitness and without proper nutrition control.
Don’t stress your body with rapid weight loss in form of starving or dangerous products..Weight loss needs to occur gradually and naturally…

Before every diet or weight loss product one must be mentally prepared , a set some goals(how much weight one want to lose and in which time frame). Of course goals are not set in stone, they are just “reminders” which give us that extra boost.
Excellent article , keep up the good work.
regards,
Pedro
