5 Differences In Weight Loss For Women – Weight Loss For Guys
Do you think “Men lose weight much more easily than women”? Of course, you are right. But: Some weight loss strategies work great for women, and others work great for men. Are you interested in knowing what works for you to lose weight permanently?
Let’s look into the most striking differences.
1) Men have more muscles and build muscles easily- at least, compared to women. The male body burns more calories than the female body, making it easier to lose weight and keep it off permanently. Of course: This only works if men do not compensate by eating more. Or, for women: Since you have fewer muscles, it might mean you have to eat less than a man of comparable size. This is especially important for women over 40 when the metabolism slows down.
Some women do not like to go to the gym because they fear they would get to “bulky”. This fear is unfounded when doing a normal exercise program. All research shows that losing weight permanently is correlated with regular exercise. You do not have to get that at the gym, but you’ll need it.
2) Women have a higher motivation. Guys usually do not care that much about their appearance, and they start looking for a weight loss program when their health is threatened. Women put more value on how they look, and tend to start a weight loss program earlier- what makes losing weight easier.
3) The motivation is different. Women often need a support group where everybody is in the same boat. Men tend to prefer to be the single sailor in a sailing regatta and compete against other guys (“I can lose more weight in a shorter period of time than you!”). I strongly recommend for women to find a support group and team up with other women who are serious about permanent, healthy weight loss. It works best, if the age range is the same- so, if you are a women over 40 and you want to lose weight, look for other women over 40 wanting to lose weight. Many women over 40 want to lose weight because they’d like to have a youthful figure.
4) Women often know much more about healthy nutrition as guys do. Generally, they have a better relationship with their bodies. This gives women a huge advantage in losing weight permanently; men just don’t care that much about their bodies.
5) Women have a hard time to stop thinking about “problem foods”. This has been proven recently by a study conducted by the Brookhaven National Laboratory. This study found that women, trying to suppress their desire for their favorite foods, still have the brain chemistry indicating that they want the food. When men tried to suppress their desire for their favorite foods, their brain activity declined. It looks as if women have a harder time to stop thinking about foods they like, making it harder to lose weight permanently.
